What is your favorite scripture and why?
Verses are like your children, which do you love more? I love them all, but I would say Romans 5:8 - “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” For me this verse sums up the incredible love of God, that He would die for His enemies!
What is your favorite quote or saying?
There are so many good ones, but a quote I've used in ministry again and again is “Watch what God is doing and join Him in it.” - Henry Blackaby
What is something most people wouldn't know about you?
I have a rare blood type, A negative. I love to fish and have a largemouth bass mounted on the wall in my church office and I can wiggle my ears!
Charles Smith
Associate Pastor
Charles Smith

harles hasn't always been in youth ministry - after graduating from UVA he was a civil engineer for several years and yes, he is a math geek! Charles has been in youth ministry since 1999 and can't imagine a more rewarding calling (or a cooler job!) Hanover Friends is only his second church. Charles, Laura (his amazing wife), and daughters Jenna and Julia feel blessed to be part of this church family. Although they miss the beach, they love it here in Mechanicsville!

What is your favorite scripture and why?
A verse that is has been really important to me the last few years is Hebrews 10:24,”And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.“ Encouraging each other to love God and love others is the basic purpose of our youth ministry at Hanover Friends. Is there anything more exciting?
What is your favorite quote or saying?
If you stand for nothing, you'll fall for anything. Let's make a stand!!
What is something most people wouldn't know about you?
You'll be surprised to know that at the very first youth group meeting I went to as a volunteer, I did not say one word the entire night. I've since made up for it...:)
Bev Mazza
Secretary
Bev Mazza

ev Mazza is a transplanted "Yankee" from the hills of New Hampshire, married to her childhood sweetheart Bob. Together they have a blended family of 6 adult children, and 16 grandchildren, and one great grandson. For most of her adult life she has been in service to others, first as a medic in the army, a home healthcare worker and field supervisor, then in ministry as a pastors' assistant and since 2006 the church secretary at Hanover Friends.

What is your favorite scripture and why?
Proverbs 3:5&6 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.” When the world and life seem so unfair, and just before I have a chance to scream, “WHY ME LORD?,” I remember this scripture; it is comforting to know that I don't NEED to understand everything; only to be obedient and TRUST. God will not fail me, even if my plan differs from His all I need to do is TRUST and acknowledge Him as the navigator and provider of my life and salvation.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
“God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called.” Believing this, how can anyone fail? If not truly called to serve God in a certain capacity, God would surely let you know in no time. So, put away your fears, and insecurities, your personal agenda, for they will only stand in the way of serving God. Once you are “called” all He asks of you is to remain faithful to the task.
What is something most people wouldn't know about you?
At the tender age of 41 years, I enrolled in class and passed the exam to obtain my motorcycle license. I love to play my autoharp, dabble in photography, gardening, and making friends with the wildlife that frequent our yard.
Amber Clark

She married her husband Sam in 2008 and they live in Highland Springs with their dog Bella and cat Tabby. Amber started working at Friendly Care in 2004 as a teacher in the after school program and eventually became the assistant director in 2009. Since September of 2014 she has been the director of the day school and loving every minute of it.

What is your favorite scripture and why?
Romans 10:9-10 -“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord” and believe in your heart that God raised him (Jesus) from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” This scripture was read to me in 2004 when I first became a Christian and made me realize there was more to being saved than hiding God in my heart and that I needed to confess with my mouth that He is Lord. It's also the same scripture I've used to help bring others to the Lord, I hold it very dear to my heart.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” - A.W. Tozer
What is something most people wouldn't know about you?
I have a strange fear of helium balloons, I can handle the foil balloons but I freak out when I am near or even hear a balloon being blown up.
Jodi Blackburn
Worship Leader
Jodi Blackburn

odi was born and raised in Strattanville, PA. She attended Clarion University majoring in business. When Joe proposed marriage and a life at the beach, it was an offer she couldn't refuse! After living in VA Beach for 7 years she made her home in Mechanicsville with Joe and their 2 young daughters. She found Hanover Friends soon after moving and has been an active member for 20 years now. She was singing before she was talking says her mom and hasn't stopped since. She is beyond blessed that she is able to lead worship for the glory of the Lord!

What is your favorite scripture and why?
This one sure has had me searching the Bible and thinking. Do I have a favorite? How can I just pick one? I especially like the ones that mention singing praises unto the Lord and I also am very fond of the ones that speak on keeping the faith and hanging on to hope. How could I get by without that? Oh, I could go on and on with this... Ephesians 2:8 - “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.
What is your favorite quote or saying?
Your attitude, not your aptitude will determine your altitude. Zig Ziglar
What is something most people wouldn't know about you?
I really want to be on a TV game show. My top picks would be The Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune.
